Angefangen mit Fotografie habe ich mit 10 Jahren 1975, als ich zum Geburtstag eine Pocketkamera von Foto-Quelle bekam. Nicht lange danach verstarb ein Großvater und ich erbte eine Kleinbildkamera, mit Aufsteckblitz, in den man Blitzbirnen stecken musste und die dann einmal hell leuchteten …

Mit 13 kaufte ich mir meine erst SLR Kamera, eine Praktika VLC2 und mit der lernte ich dann zu fotografieren. Sie hatte einen eingebauten Belichtungsmesser mit Nachführsystem, so lernte ich das Zusammenspiel von ISO, Zeit und Blende. Mit 16 dann, arbeitete ich in den Ferien in Göttingen bei Foto Schubert, einem damals sehr angesehenen Fotofachgeschäft mit eigenem Studio und wieder konnte ich viel dazu lernen und mir eine neue Kamera leisten, diese Mal eine mit Zeitautomatik, eine Yashica FX-D Quartz, dazu hatte ich ein 28mm, ein 50mm und ein Telezoom Objetiv. Wieder machte ich viele Bilder, kaufte viele Filme, lernte selbst zu entwickeln und zu vergrößern zuerst in SW, später auch bei einem Schülerjob in Farbe – in einem kleinen Fotogeschäft mit 1 Stunden Service bei dem die Filterung immer manuell korrigiert werden musste.

Irgendwann in den 80er Jahren wechselte ich dann zu MINOLTA und wieder ein paar Jahre darauf, als es Minolta nicht mehr gab zu NIKON. Die Nikon Ausrüstung – zu Beginn eine NIKON F100, später dann erst eine D690 und dann die D700, dann die D750 – war dann schon sehr umfangreich und ich habe in meinem kleinen Studio in Friedrichhain sehr viel fotografiert. Irgendwann kam ich über die Fotografie zu XING, weil ich für den damaligen XING Ambassador für Berlin, Nils Rüstmann, Veranstaltungen fotografiert habe, und damit dann zur SNG, der Social Network Group für die ich alle Kunden im Bereich Fotografie betreut habe. Das war dann auch mein Einstieg in die photokina, für die ich die Social Media Kanäle aufgebaut habe. Das Fotofestival Horizonte Zingst war dann ein weiteres Highlight auf dem ich nicht nur viele begnadetet Fotografen kennenlernen durfte, sondern wo ich auch in diversen Workshops unglaublich viel gelernt habe. 

In diesem Zuge lernte ich dann auch Olympus kennen und lieben. Meine erste Olympus war eine OM-D E-M5 ii und schon in kurzer Zeit hatte ich wieder ein beachtliches Sortiment an guten Objektiven dafür. Als dann die Zeit anstand, meine Nikon Ausrüstung, die inzwischen etwas in die Jahre gekommen war zu aktualisieren, entschied ich mich Abschied zu nehmen von Nikon und komplett zu Olympus zu wechseln. Bilder meiner Hochzeitsreise und diverse Urlaubsbilder, die in großen Formaten zu Hause an den Wänden hingen, zeigten mir, dass ich „mehr“ nicht brauchte und ganz sicher nicht das doppelte an Gewicht mit in den Urlaub nehmen würde.

Am liebsten fotografiere ich nach wie vor Menschen, habe aber inzwischen auch Natur- und Landschaftsfotografie für mich entdeckt.

Mein Weg geht weiter, mit Workshops, im Austausch mit Freunden und Kollegen, mit dem einen oder anderen Experiment, aber immer mit Spaß an der Fotografie.

I started with photography in 1975, when I turned 10 and received a pocket camera from Foto Quelle for my birthday. Not long after that my grandfather died and he left me an old 35mm camera which had a flash which uses flash bulbs that only worked once …

At 13 I bought my first SLR camera, an East- German Praktika VLC2. It had a built in meter with a tracking system and so I learned about the interaction of ISO, time and aperture. At 16 I worked in Göttingen in a well known photo shop that had it’s own photo studio and again I learned a lot and was able to affor a brand new camera with aoutomatic timing, a Yashica FX-D Quarz, I got a 28mm lens, a 50 mm lens and a tele zoom lens to go with it. And again I took thousands of photos, baught many rols of film, learned how to develop films and enlarge prints, first only black an white, later even in color, working in a small photo shop that had a 1 hour service for color prints but you had to to correct the filtering manually.

Sometime during the 1980s I swichted to Minolta and again a couple years after that when Minolta didn’t exist any longer I switched to Nikon. In the beginning it was a 35mm NIKON F100, later than the Nikon D90 and than the Nikon D700 and the D750. The equipment grew really big and I shot many many pictures in my little studio in Berlin Friedrichshain. Through my photography I got introduced to the late XING Berlin ambassador Nils Rüstmann and I started taking pictures for him at the local events. I then joind the Social Network Group and I looked after all the customers int the photography business. This was my ticket to the photokina (which used to be the worlds largest photografhy fair, located in Cologne) and built up all the solcial media channels for them. Another highlight was the yearly Fotofestival Horizonte Zingst at the baltic sea where I met some gifted photografers and took part in numerous workshops myself.

This was the time when I fell in love with the Olympus camera system. The first Olympus camera was an OM-D E-M5 ii and within a short time I had aquired a notable set of really good lenses. When time came to update my Nikon equipment I decided to say good bye to Nikon and change completely to Olmpus. The pictures of my honeymoon and numerous picutres that I took during vacations were hanging as large high qualtity printouts at my home and showed me that I didn’t need „more“ and for sure not more weight when traveling.

I still fancy taking pictures of people but meanwhile I have also discovered nature and landscape photography for myself.

My way continues, visiting workshops, exchanging ideas and knowhow with friends and colleagues, experimanting, but always having fun.
